OUR FUTURE

---

We look at the future
Through eyes of the past:
Yesterday's successes
Become tomorrow's laws:
What has been
Is all the ever can be;
What worked before
Becomes the only way.
Failure follows failure
As we try nothing new
For we want to make yesterday
The only future possible.

DIFFERENCES

---

You see and focus
On the happiness
That can be found
In any situation.
I can not see
Beyond the circumstances
I do not control
Thus happiness eludes me.
You are able,
By carefully seeking,
To find the good
No matter what is happening.
Regardless of how I search,
I can seldom find
The positive side of things.
These are differences
In our personalities
That neither of us can change
So please cease insisting
That I see life the same as you,
Instead help me to find
What you so readily see
Everywhere you look.

ALONE

---

I am alone, too much alone
And feel the loss as weakness.
Friends and family surround me
But still I feel the exile
As if left behind
When all others have moved on.

DOUBTS AND FEARS

---

Thomas has his doubts
About so many things.
When Jesus appeared to him
After the resurrection,
Jesus did not address
Thomas' fears of death,
Rather Jesus calmed
Thomas' fears about living
And living his life for Jesus.
As Jesus did for Thomas,
So he'll do for us
When we are overcome
By the doubts and fears
That assail us on all sides.
Because Jesus calms all fears,
We are free to live.
