BROKEN CHAINS
Life is full of difficulties

That seem to pull us down.
Often we are overwhelmed
By habits we can't break.
We read self-help books
And attend twelve-step programs.
The habitual behaviors
May be held in abeyance
But still remain unconquered.
Regardless of what we do
Habits keep us chained to the past.
But there is help to be found.
Turn to the Author of Life.
He will break your chains
For the grace of God is bigger
Than what you are trying to conquer.

CLOUDS
I'm surrounded by a great cloud

Of many false witnesses,
People who tell me every day
'Bout all the wrong I've done.
I'm pressed about on ev'ry side
By advice that when heeded
Causes me to doubt my worth
And leave the path of God.
I'm surrounded by another still:

The cloud of loving friends
Who truly want the best for me
And remind me of the good I do.
I'm lifted by them every day
To a kind and loving God.
They remind me of my true worth
Thus keeping me on the path of God.

'TIL WE LEARN
When the eagle

Teaches her young to fly
She carries them first
To a great height
Before dropping them off her wing.

As they flap and falter
She catches them on her back.
She repeats this process
Over and over again
Until each eaglet begins to fly.

God carries us upward
As we strive to fly alone.
We often fall from the heights
And feel God has dropped us
To falter on our won.

We do not see him beneath us,
Prepared as the eagle,
To stop our aimless descent.
This process is repeated
Over and over again
Until we begin to trust in God.

HOLD ON
Some things absolutely require

That you hold on to them
With both hands.
You can't hold on
To yourself in protection
And take the hand of God.
You cannot hold on to
Anything in this world
Once you've taken
The hand of God.
