IMPEDIMATION

Often your words have taken flight
As with my pen I must write
The phrase that pops into my head
From the sentence that you said.
Seldom can I just enjoy
Hearing words that you employ,
Instead of this, I must jot
Poems before I lose the lot.
A new word I now invent
Taking it from impediment:
Impedimation is the name
Of this form of guiltless blame
That I will now assign to you
For causing poems none to few.

ONCE A YEAR IS NOT ENOUGH
Would you eat just once a year?

Do you bathe but once a week?
How often do you dishes clear?
Do you wait to fix a leak
Until it is again the time
For someone your roof to climb
Before replacing a missing tile?
Then tell me please, why do you wait
To feed the spiritual side of you
Tempting sorely your eternal fate,
Leaving church 'til all else is through?

JOY
God gave me joy

And sent me to Ninevah.
Ninevah was too far away,
And too difficult to reach,
And it would cost too much,
So I chose to go to Tarshish instead.
I ignored God's itinerary
And went my own way.
Tarshish was close,
I could almost see the shore
When suddenly a storm arose,
And joy was gone.
I could see it no more.
I looked and searched
With no success.
I was swallowed by depression.
But God spoke to me,
Relieved the depression
And sent me again to Ninevah.
There on dry land,
Heading in God's direction,
I found joy waiting.

WINNER!
Have you ever played a game

And lost by a significant margin
Then had to watch the winner
As they added up their score
While grinning and beaming and gloating
Over how little you'd accomplished?
Think about how you felt that day
As they gloried in your defeat
Then turn your thoughts to the battle
Waging in the spiritual realm.
And when by life's storms you are tossed
Remember the margin by which God has won
And total up all your blessings
While grinning and beaming and gloating
Over how little Satan can accomplish.
